Otis Taylor holds down Dazzle Jazz on New Year's Weekend.

Boulder-via-Chicago bluesman Otis Taylor played three nights at Dazzle Jazz to ring in the New year this past weekend.  Otis and his band blew the crowd away with two shows a night on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Taylor's group consisted of his daughter Cassie Taylor on Bass and vocals, West African percussionist Fara Tolo, Pedal Steel Guitarist Chuck Campbell,  Larry Thompson on drums and the crowd-pleasing Anne Harris (Sat and Sun shows only) on violin.

The six musicians delighted all in attendance with their mix of blues, neo-blues, rock and folk music.  Otis’ on-stage persona was hard to ignore as he enticed the crowd to join his band with various call-and-response duties while he forced them to get up and dance (in a nice way).

Never was yelling, “Hambone” along with 100 other people so fun.

Taylor, who lives in Boulder with his wife Carol Ellen Bjork visits Dazzle Jazz about twice a year to perform.

Don’t miss him next time he’s here.
